Senior Portraits KC | High School Senior Grant | DePrisco Photo

It seems like just yesterday I was waiting in line in a hallway at my middle school with my friend, Jenny, waiting to enter the gym for our 8th grade band concert when all of a sudden a little boy came running down the hall and tackled her to the ground. Fast forward too many years and now that little boy is a senior in high school… yes, a SENIOR! It’s been quite a few years since I’ve seen him and this little boy has grown into such a handsome young man. It was so great to work with Grant for his senior photos and I am so glad to be back in touch with his family (thanks to Laura, of Captured in His Image for getting us back in touch since she is now officially a resident, student, and photographer in TAMPA!). -Cate

Kansas City Family Portraits | Stroessner Family Pictures

When we photographed Sophia and Kevin’s Gulf Shores wedding, we met Lacy. She is one of Sophia’s best friends, and was also one of the singers during the ceremony. I knew they wouldn’t have time to do a family session before they left the beach but I told them I’d love to photograph their family if they ever happened to be in Kansas City or we happened to be near them… wherever that may be. Little did I know they live in Columbia, Missouri, and have family in KC so they are here all the time! A month or so after the wedding Lacy reached out to me and said they’d be in town for her dad’s birthday party and they’d love to schedule a family photo session with me… so we did! When you’re finished looking through the photos of this beautiful family, you should totally check out Lacy her blog: Living on Love!

Senior Portraits KC | Rachel | DePrisco Photo

We’ve been planning this senior photo shoot for a few months now, and we chose to do an early morning session to beat the heat and the extreme sunshine that likes to show up in Kansas City in July. It’s been dry, it’s been hot, and it’s been sunny… until 7am last Sunday. The rain we’ve desperately needed was hovering in the dark clouds above and threatening to pour, and I was just waiting for a phone call from Rachel questioning whether or not we would make the shoot happen, especially since her dad was driving up his Oldsmobile Cutlass convertible for the photos. But the phone call never came and Rachel and her family showed up just in time. Thankfully it never poured and Rachel was so flexible with using the time it was lightly raining to change her outfit, or to find a slightly covered space.

Thanks so much, Rachel, for being our VERY FIRST SENIOR SPOKESMODEL for DePrisco Photo! We can’t wait for you second senior portrait session in the fall!

KC Wedding Photography | Baltimore Club | Neely and Rhys

Neely and Rhys had such a beautiful wedding at the Baltimore Club in Kansas City, MO. They were both so relaxed the day of the wedding and went with the flow so even if something didn’t go according to plan no one ever knew. Because Kansas City is such an important place to this perfect match, they organized a Trolly to take them to a few different locations for portraits after they got ready in the President Hotel. Some advice from the newlyweds for those couple who are in the wedding process:

Rhys: My advice to couples would be make the wedding planning a team project. It was a great way for my wife and I to get to know each other, see how each other works, and how well we work together. It really brought us closer together. (Fellas: please note that showing up is 9/10s of your job so go to the flower appointments, the caterers, help pick your big days colors. It will give you so much insight as to how your bride works, thus great tools for your marriage).

… his favorite part of the day? The way Neely looked at him as we read our vows. In that moment, as we solidified our commitment to one another, nothing in our relationship really changed, but my perspective of what it truly means to be a husband sunk in and knowing that she felt the same way about me as I did about her made me the happiest man in the world (let’s be honest I was crying a bit).

Neely: The best advice I can give any bride out there is to relax as much as possible the day of (and make sure you eat!). I can guarantee that there might be problems and slight mess ups the day of but the best thing you can do is ignore it and have an incredible time with your new husband! This is your celebration, nobody will even realize that there is a problem unless you tell them there is. Your guests will be looking at you to judge the atmosphere, if you are having a great time they will too.

… and her favorite part of the day (in her words): Even though we did the first look previously, the best part of the day for me was looking at Rhys while I was walking down the aisle. There was so much emotion as I think we both realized that it was really happening! I will never ever forget the look on his face.

Our favorite part of the day came a few weeks later when we ran into this wonderful couple at the downtown grocery store and they told us, “You know you love your photographer when you want a picture taken with him at the end of the day!” Not being a big fan of standing in FRONT of the camera, it was hard to say no to these happy people!

Kansas City Wedding Photography | Hawthorne House | Sara and Casey

When Sara and Casey were planning their May wedding at The Hawthorne House in Parkville, Missouri, they were counting on pleasant temperatures and plenty of sunshine. They’d expected to have plenty of time outside to take wedding photos in this picturesque location, asked us to have The Photo Bus sitting outside for guests to enjoy taking photo booth photos during the reception, and made lemonade to put in mason jars and an unlimited amount of popcorn and peanuts to go with the baseball theme. Then it rained (and even snowed a little) all. day. long. This uncooperative Missouri spring weather kept everyone inside, but fortunately there was enough light to make everyone glow. The Hawthorne House is a gorgeous location for a wedding, even when it rains due to the wrap around porch and big windows.

We asked Sara for some advice for those who are wedding planning now and here’s what she said:

Enjoy every second of the planning and don’t stress out too much. I put so much work into many little things for the wedding and realized in the end none of it really mattered, only the bride notices the little things. Everything always turns out the day of, because it truly is the best day of your life, even if something doesn’t go the way you thought it would (like the weather!)

Thanks so much to Sara and Casey for letting us be there to document the best day of your life through photographs.
